IM2017   social programme

The yearly International Meetings (IMs) are more than just technical conferences. A majority of the typically more than 40 particpants are regular attendants, and nearly half of them bring their partners along. Over time a network of fellow collectors and researchers evolved, and along that also many personal friendships. Therefore the planning of a successful IM involves also this dimension, in particular the evenings and a partner programme for saturday, the main day of the conference.

evening
programme
  Friday
Dinner buffet at 19:00 at the Bristol hotel, and an open end
Saturday
Walk after 19:00 from the hotel through the center of Bonn (pedestrain zone) to the the Bönnsch brewery and pub, located at Sterntorbrücke 4. We will have the "Mälzerei" (former malt house) for us for the whole evening. A three course dinner is scheduled for 19:30, typical regional food with choices (2 starters, 4 for the main dish, 2 desserts).

We made arrangements for the dinners, to be booked with the registration (28€, resp. 25€). This comprizes the food; beverages have to be paid individually at both places, they are not included. See the registration form.

partner programme
for saturday
picture of typical boat of KD line on the River Rhine view ahead on the River Rhine

For partners we have planned a boat trip and visit of the Drachenfels (Dragon's Rock), a castle and excursion venue, south of Bonn. Drachenfels marks the northern end of the section of the River Rhine know as Romantic Rhine, which is described in more detail on our web page with some touristic tips.

The day trip is based on a combined ticket (Kombiticket Drachenfels, 20€) of the KD Köln-Düsseldorfer shipping line, which covers both the boat trips from Bonn to Königswinter and the rides on the rack and pinion railway for going up the mountain. The boats leave Bonn at 10:30 and 12:30, needing an hour going upstream to Königswinter. The return trip from Königswinter to Bonn at 13:40, 15:40 and 17:40 takes just 35 minutes. Plan sufficient time to cross town to reach the pier and buying your ticket there!

Further details at the registration upon your arrival. Please mark your interest on the registration form!

For bad weather on saturday we have a plan B, indoors. It is a visit to an interesting museum, the Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, (Museum of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany), located on the Bonner Museumsmeile (museum mile) at Willy-Brandt-Allee 14. The museum opens at 10:00 and is easily reachable by a short tram ride; no entrance fees.

For those of you with different interests [or those of you who even "do" several museums a day :-)], there are three more museums / art galeries close to the Haus der Geschichte:

and finally, there is of course the Beethoven-Haus. These are all on our Plan B, if the planned Drachenfels tour has to be cancelled due to bad weather. With the boat and Drachenfels trip and all these indoor alternatives to a lousy day outside, we feel well-prepared for a nice and interesting day for our partners.
